Divine Feminine Power

“...Nature does not want you to become pregnant each month; she does not even insist that you become pregnant at all. She does request, though, that your body and mind remain in regular contact with their roots,in that creativity which females alone possess. ...” Robert Svoboda
I’ve been diving into women’s health this past month in my yoga therapy program. When teaching class my focus of late has been on the 2nd chakra, svadhisthana, that lives just below the navel and above the pubic bone. One thing I love about picking a theme for class is when my energy is focused on a theme, the theme begins to find me through quotes, intuition, and life experiences. As a result, I woke up Friday morning thinking about this home of self (2nd Chakra) as it relates to feminine power. So much power resides in the space of the womb that it is political: pro life or pro choice! I know this isn’t a new realization, but it was a realization I felt at a cellular level vs. intellectual. How did I let politics create amnesia in my body and cloud over my unbelievably powerful feminine energy? It’s my roots, my creativity, my body, my decision, my power! I am not pro-choice or pro-life. I am pro-power and it is up to you and you alone what you decide is best for your body, mind and spirit.
I am reminded that the most important relationship a woman has is the one with herself. Politics takes us out of our bodies and into our heads. This is a call to remember your roots, your creativity that only you alone possess.
The outdated model of power over is slowly changing as we recognize our power within.
The Ruling planet of the 2nd Chakra is Pluto known as the god of the underworld. It’s no surprise as it relates to this area around our sexual organs and reproduction that they become taboo to discuss. Important topics such as childbirth, abortion, sexual assault/abuse,fertility, postpartum depression and the list goes one... Pluto is about death and destruction and a symbol of transformation. Like a phoenix we have the power to rise from the ashes.
“After the storm cleared she met the next version of herself.” - Spirit Daughter
The ruling goddess of the 2nd chakra is Rakini shakti, who drinks nectar from the 7th chakra-the ambrosia of the gods. She asks the question: are we filling ourselves with the sweetness of life and love? (The subtle body by Cyndi Dale)
The element of the 2nd chakra is water. And not just any water, think amniotic fluid, which provides safety, protection, and supports human growth specifically bones and lungs. These waters are mystical as well as supportive. It’s how we flow and move through life. Water has the power to destroy (tsunami) or nourish (plants). Humans are made up of 70% water, it is vital to our survival! Just as the health of our 2nd chakra is vital to our mental/emotional/spiritual health.
When you meditate or sit still, place your hands on your lower abdomen, just below your navel. Connect and breathe into this space. Become aware of your thoughts, feelings and sensations as you breathe. Connect with your internal power, acknowledge and honor it’s presence. This is an act of self love and compassion.
On instagram this week cleo wade posted a beautiful poem:
When I let go
Of who
I thought I had to be
I could finally
And powerfully
Become who I really am
Oh
To find out
I had been hiding
And did not know that
Self-love had been
Looking for me all along
Let’s together honor and remember this divine feminine energy within us. Love, nourish and care for it. And let’s bring this power onto our yoga mats as well as out in the world.
With gratitude.
Love,
Rebecca
